Headstones toppled and stonework smashed as Arnos Vale Cemetery vandalised
Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust has reported a series of incidents that took place last week, involving deliberate damage to several parts of Arnos Vale Cemetery.
A total of seven graves were affected, with Victorian marble headstones toppled and stonework smashed.
The boiler room and crypt of the Anglican Chapel, a Grade II listed building, were also broken into, sustaining significant damage in the process.

The Trust has been in contact with the families connected to the graves that have been vandalised.
This vandalism has understandably caused concern to everyone that cherishes the Totterdown cemetery as a place of remembrance, reflection and heritage.
As a registered charity, Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust relies on public support and donations to care for this historic site.
Acts of vandalism place additional pressure on limited resources and divert funds away from day-to-day maintenance and conservation work across the cemetery and its listed buildings.
The team is working closely with local police and has begun assessing further security measures for the cemetery, which may mean added costs for overnight security and additional security cameras.

Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust is asking the local community to be vigilant and to report any damage or unusual or suspicious activity – particularly during the evening and overnight.
Incidents that are reported to the police should quote crime reference number AF-20250531-0744.
The Arnos Vale Cemetery remains open 24 hours a day, with the team also contactable on 0117 971 9117 during office hours or by emailing [email protected].
Ann Fiddler, CEO at Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust, said: “Arnos Vale has always been a space cared for and respected by the local community.
“We are grateful for the continued support and ask everyone to remain vigilant and report any signs of new damage to the graves or the site, so together we can ensure the protection and conservation of this unique place for generations to come.”
