Elderly couple die in Feeder Road crash

By Bristol24/7  Friday Apr 28, 2017

A husband and wife were both killed when the car they were travelling in crashed into the Feeder canal.

John and Joan Tipler, who lived locally and are believed to have been in their 70s, died following the incident which happened at around 11pm on Wednesday.

The crash has caused major damage to a section of the metal fence that separates Feeder Road from the canal, and this has been barricaded with temporary fencing where flowers have been left in tribute to the couple.

By Thursday afternoon, crash investigators had left the scene but their spray paint markings remained on the road, seeming to show the car mounting the kerb on the wrong side of the road and leaving rubber on the pavement before careering across both lanes, through the barrier and into the water.

Parts of the plastic bumper and blue body panels from the car, as well as glass from the windscreen, remained strewn around the crash site, including in the vegetation that lines the Feeder canal.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “A Renault Clio was being driven along Feeder Road, Bristol, at approximately 11pm when it lost control and went into the River Avon.

“Sadly the female driver and male passenger both died as a result of the collision. Our thoughts remain with their family and friends.”
