Driver crashes car into pub
A car crashing into a particular pub in Hotwells has become a sadly all-too familiar sight in recent years and it has now happened again.
Part of the front wall of the Merchants Arms was destroyed on Sunday evening as a car driver crashed their vehicle into the side of the pub on Merchants Road.
Bristol24/7 understands that at least one person was injured in the incident which comes as local campaigners are asking for roads in the area to be reduced to 20mph.

Hotwells & Harbourside councillor, Patrick McAllister, wrote on BlueSky: “I am upset and angry at another serious car crash in Hotwells…
This is exactly why our administration is bringing in 20mph limits – we need them.
“I spoke to Paul, who habitually sits in the chair out the front of the pub… which was destroyed by the crash.
“Thankfully he wasn’t sitting there when this happened. And thankfully the pub wasn’t full of people – this time.
“Other locals were bemoaning the poor safety infrastructure in the area: this isn’t the first time the Merchants Arms has been hit!”

McAllister added: “We need systemic improvements.
“Road safety is a priority for Bristol Green Party and I will keep pressing hard for specific changes to the Hotwells roads.
“I have written to the Merchants Arms to offer my support, and I will do what I can to ensure that we change the speed limits and infrastructure here to stop this happening again.”
