Five people injured and driver remains in custody after car crashes into pub

The driver that crashed their car into a pub in Hotwells remains in police custody.

Five people were injured in the incident at the Merchants Arms with four taken to hospital.

The car was driven into one of the walls of the pub on Merchants Road just before 9.30pm on Sunday.

An Avon & Somerset Police spokesperson said: “At 9.28pm on Sunday 29 March we received reports that a car had collided with a building in Merchants Road in the Hotwells area of Bristol.

“Officers attended, alongside the ambulance and fire services, and closed the road while they responded.

“Five people were injured and four of these were taken to hospital. None of the injuries were believed to be serious.

“A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle dangerously and driving whilst unfit through drugs. He remains in police custody.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone with any dashcam or CCTV footage of it should call 101 using the reference number 5226086410.”
