David James Bristol City shirts sold
Two Bristol City shirts belonging to former goalkeeper David James raised more than £300 in an online auction yesterday.
James, who played at Ashton Gate from 2010 to 2012, was declared bankrupt in May despite earning about £20million during his career, and was selling 150 shirts, shorts and match balls.
The two Robins shirts on sale and their sale price were:
- Black with white trim goalkeeper jersey, 2010/11 season – sold for £264
- Number 1, red and black with white trim training top – sold for £75
The entire stock sold for thousands of pounds, with Petr Cech’s goalkeeping jersey worn by the Chelsea stopper during his side’s 1-0 FA Cup final win against James’ Portsmouth in 2010 selling for £3,831.
The big ticket item was a collection of more than 1,800 vinyl records, which was the last lot to go after 6pm with a final bid of £5,632.
The belongings of the former England goalkeeper, who declared bankruptcy in May, were put on the market by court-appointed trustees to raise funds for creditors of James’ estate, the largest of which is HM Revenue and Customs.
