Changes to Bristol’s buses as lockdown eases
Bus services will be changing in Bristol from Sunday.
As lockdown eases, First Bus will be adjusting timetables and additional journeys to meet changing customer demand. It will remain a legal requirement to wear a face mask.
“As we take the next step on the roadmap to recovery, we are continuing to monitor what is needed to get our customers moving safely, reliably and with confidence as they begin to undertake more day-to-day travel in line with Government guidance,” says Doug Claringbold, managing director of First West of England, who recommends customers download the the First Bus app and use the Space Checker website.
“As restrictions ease, places and public transport will be busier than previously. This means that it may not always be possible to socially distance and passengers may need to sit next to each other.
“We are still limiting numbers on board and if a bus has reached its full capacity it will indicate so and may not be able to stop and pick up more customers until someone alights.”
Among key changes are the introduction of additional journeys across several services at peak times and the re-introduction of service A1 from Bristol Bus Station to Bristol Airport:
Service 1 – Broomhill to Cribbs Causeway via city centre
Monday to Friday, a number of additional journeys will operate at peak times between the city centre and Henbury.
Service 2 – Stockwood to Cribbs Causeway via city centre
Monday to Friday, a number of additional journeys will operate at peak times between the city ccentre and Lake Road, Henleaze.
Service 4 – City centre to Cribbs Causeway
Monday to Friday, a number of additional journeys will operate at peak times between the city centre and Henbury/Cribbs Causeway.

Service 6 – City centre to Kingswood
Monday to Friday, a number of additional journeys will operate at peak times between the City centre and Soundwell/Kingswood.
Service 43 – City Centre to Cadbury Heath
Monday to Friday, a number of additional journeys will operate at peak times between the city centre and Kingswood.
Service 48 – city centre to Emersons Green
Monday to Friday, a number of additional journeys will operate at peak times between the city centre and Fishponds.
Service 75 – Hengrove to Cribbs Causeway
Monday to Friday, a number of additional journeys will operate at peak times over the busiest sections of route.
Service 76 – Hengrove to Cribbs Causeway
Monday to Friday, a number of additional journeys will operate at peak times over the busiest sections of route.
Service 96/96s – Hengrove to Brislington
Monday to Friday, an additional journey at 0725 will operate from Hengrove to Brislington.
Service A1 – Bristol Bus Station to Bristol Airport
From May 16, service A1 will be reinstated. This service will operate a revised route and timetable.
It will operate along the same route as the existing service A2, observing all stops along the route, however service A1 will use Bristol Bus Station instead of the Haymarket.
Service A1 will operate up to every 20 minutes and will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Local fares will be available for any journeys not starting or finishing at Bristol Airport. Concessionary passes can be used along the entire service A1 route.

Service A2 – Bristol City Centre to Bristol Airport
Service A2 will be withdrawn from May 16, however, customers will be able to use service A1, which will be reinstated from the same date and operate along the same route, as an alternative.
Service m1 – Hengrove Park to Cribbs Causeway
Saturday daytime frequency between city centre and UWE Bristol on this service will be increased from every 15 minutes to every seven to eight minutes.
Sunday daytime frequency between city centre and UWE Bristol on this service will be increased from every 20 minutes to every ten minutes.
Service m3x – Emersons Green to City Centre
An additional Monday to Friday journey will operate on this service at 0726 from Emersons Green to city centre, to supplement the existing journey at 0725.
Service SB1 – St Brendan’s College Service
Due to high demand for the service, two vehicles will operate on both journeys to double the capacity.
