Bristolian invents Quick release wheel lock

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Sep 30, 2014

A quick release wheel lock is the first product brought to market by Westbury-on-Trym engineer, aerospace inspector and inventor Curtis Dorrington.

“Simply put it’s a fit and forget mechanism which discourages thieves from stealing your bike wheels and you carrying less locks,” says Dorrington.

The Quick Cap is made from a single piece of lightweight aluminium with a removable shackle for easy fitting.

The device does not come in contact with a bike but locks around the cup of the quick release and restricts operation of the lever.

Specially designed lugs at the rear of Quick Caps mean that should someone get enough force to rotate the lever attempting to undo the thread, the lugs act as stoppers and will be obstructed by the forks, preventing rotation.

The former City of Bristol College student is raising funds for his invention on Kickstarter, where he needs to raise £15,000 by October 25.
