Bristol joins global protest against Elon Musk’s ‘dangerous’ policies
Americans living in Bristol were joined in by their local friends as they protested against Elon Musk’s “dangerous” policies.
More than 50 people gathered outside the Tesla showroom near Cribbs Causeway as part of a global protest – TeslaTakedown – against Elon Musk and the Trump administration.
Protesters were seen holding placards that urged cars driving by to honk if they agreed with their defiance of Musk’s attempt to “dismantle” the US federal government and destabilise democracy worldwide.
TeslaTakedown was held in 277 Tesla locations in the US and more than 500 Tesla locations across the world, including Bristol on Saturday morning.

Placards read “Don’t buy swasticars” and “Honk if you hate Elon”
For the last few months, protesters have been urging people to sell their Tesla cars, dump their Tesla stocks and boycott Tesla charging stations.
They have also affirmed that the protests are “working” with the car manufacturer’s stocks plummeting drastically since protests began.
One American protestor who has lived in Bristol since Trump’s first election said: “Billionaires like Musk are attacking our democracy. I have to stand up for what’s right and speak out about what’s happening. What Musk is doing is illegal and won’t stop at America’s border.
“I have lived in Bristol since Trump’s first election. This second time around is even more terrifying as he and Musk work to destroy the American government and our democracy. We have to stop them, and this protest is one way to do that.”
The steering committee of Bristol Stand Up to Racism, who have also rallied their support for the protest said: “Elon Musk, with his Nazi salute and support for mass deportations from the US, as well as his onslaught on the civic right to protest and trans rights, has become an international champion of the far-right politics of hate and division.
“When he stokes racism and Islamophobia in the UK, such as around so-called ‘Pakistani grooming gangs’, it shows the urgency here in the UK of a mass politics of hope with anti-oppression at its heart.
“We send our solidarity and stand with all those protesting outside Tesla buildings!”
