Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2025, day 20: Share Bristol
Share Bristol’s belief that “everybody shares” things is redefining the meaning of a library.
Their Library of Things means people can borrow anything and everything from their treasure trove of things. From gardening and camping equipment to guitars, tennis rackets and more – Share Bristol’s libraries hold numerous surprises.
Founded in 2021, the concept started in Kingswood and has since expanded to two other sites, the latest one opening in Bedminster in 2024.

Mostly volunteer-run and a registered charity, the organisation keeps community and people “at the heart of everything they do”.
Explaining the concept on their website, Share Bristol’s team said: “The Library of Things movement is growing across the globe, helping people save money and space in their homes and helping the environment by making good use of our resources.
“However, each Library of Things organisation is different – some are commercial businesses, some are informal volunteer groups, some are community interest companies and some, like Share Bristol, are registered charities.”
For a small annual membership fee, people get access to a catalogue of things that they can then borrow and return for free.
“We want to see a network of Share Bristol locations so that our Library of Things is accessible to everyone in the Bristol and South Gloucestershire area,” they added.
Once a member, people can browse through their online catalogue and reserve whatever they’d like to borrow. They can then drop in to the selected Share Bristol location and return it according to the booking made.
Share Bristol’s concept is rooted in the belief that sharing can work for everyone, whether it is to use something once or again and again.
