Bristol to bid for share of £7m cycling infrastructure funding
Seven million pounds of Government funding is now available for UK cities to spend on cycling infrastructure, but if Bristol wants some of the cash we need to come up with schemes on which to spend the money.
Cycling minister Jesse Norman was on Cattle Market Road next to a spick and span new segregated cycle lane to announce the next round of funding to the Cycling Ambition Cities.
Bristol is one of seven Cycling Ambition Cities and previously received a £19m share of the original £121m pot in 2014.
Bristol City Council cabinet member for transport, Mhairi Threlfall, said: “I am proud of the way that Bristol has led the way as a Cycling City with millions of cycle journeys each year and very high levels of walking and cycling to work compared to most other large cities in the UK.
“However, there is still much more that we can do to get even more people using bicycles and this requires investment in our cycling infrastructure.
“We welcome this government funding and we will certainly be bidding for a share of it to meet our continually high cycling ambitions.”
