Ben Stokes and Alex Hales charged by ECB after Bristol brawl

By Ellie Pipe  Tuesday Sep 18, 2018

Repercussions of a brawl on the Clifton Triangle continue for England cricketers Ben Stokes and Alex Hales, who have been charged with bringing the game into disrepute.

The pair have now oficially been charged by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and will go before a disciplinary hearing on December 5 and 7.

All-rounder Stokes, 27, faced charges of affray from the fight that took place after a night out following an England game at the County Ground in September 2017. He was found not guilty by a jury at Bristol Crown Court last month.

Batsman Hales, 29, had been present at the time, but was not charged.

Both men were referred to the CDC by ECB director of cricket Andrew Strauss in September 2017, but the hearing was put on hold until the criminal case was finished.

Each player has been charged with two counts of breaching the ECB directive starting participants must conduct themselves in a manner so as to not bring the game, or players into disrepute.

The independent Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) panel will be made up of Tim O’Gorman, Chris Tickle and Mike Smith.

The CDC panel will be held in private in London and their rulings will be published following the hearing.
