Exclusive clip from DJ Derek short film

A six-minute short about DJ Derek will air at the 6 Music Festival By Day on Sunday, part of the 6 Music Festival in Bristol this weekend.

Ring the Alarm – The DJ Derek Story will be premiered by Don Letts on Sunday at the Trinity Centre. It will be followed by a discussion, hosted by 6 Music presenter Gideon Coe, marking DJ Derek’s contribution to the Bristol music scene which Letts will take part in alongside fellow DJ Count Skylarkin’.

Letts, alongside Massive Attack’s Daddy G, was making a film about the DJ before he went missing.

Letts and Daddy G both know Derek and have played alongside him many times. They started to shoot material for a documentary on the legendary DJ in 2014, including a candid two hour interview.

The intention was to create a film out of this footage but the project has been put on hold since Derek’s disappearance in July 2015.
