In just over 3 months Slide Bristol has transported happy commuters over 16,000 miles across the city and become a regular commuting choice for many.
Described as a ‘bus you’ll actually want to get on’, Slide’s innovative, premium transport service offers passengers the opportunity to book their journey in advance or up to 10 minutes before their desired departure time. Branded vehicles and Slide trained and managed drivers ensure a consistent, premium service.
This new player in Bristol’s public transport landscape has already bagged a recognition at Travel West’s Business Awards – Highly Commended for Most Innovative Sustainable Travel Measure.
Since launch, they’ve nearly doubled the number of areas in which they operate, expanding to include: Westbury-on-Trym in West Bristol, Fishponds and Frenchay in East Bristol, and Bedminster and Southville in South Bristol and recently added two more vehicles to the fleet to keep up with demand.
How It Works
Passengers select their desired travel time and a clever algorithm calculates the optimal route to the passenger’s destination based on others requesting a similar journey.
Unlike bus routes, Slide routes are created organically, according to user demand. Passengers will be given a pick-up point no more than five minutes’ walk from their starting point and receive real time journey updates via the app.
Up to eight passengers can travel in a Slide, enjoying free Wi-Fi to make an early start on the day or catch up on the latest Netflix series.
The cost of a Slide is on average half that of a taxi and just a little more than a bus fare, e.g. a single from Filton to Bristol city centre is £7, with shorter distances such as Temple Meads to Clifton £4. The company was this month recognised by TravelWest in its sustainable travel awards.
