This eclectic part of Bristol is home to a whole host of different independents that cater for all interests from food to fashion and plants to pottery.

If you want to support local businesses with your summer plans this year, or want to introduce visitors to the city with a real taste of Bristol life, this collection of workshops and experiences in Bedminster has some things that you don’t want to miss!

Creative Club at The Star and Dove, £16

Hosted by illustrator Jess Knights, this creative workshop proves that anyone has the ability to be creative! This social illustration workshop uses fresh seasonal vegetables from a local greengrocer as inspiration for some fun creative play with all sorts of paints, pastels and pens!

Make a Bristol Balloon Print, £40

Learn printmaking in this workshop that creates a piece of artwork that is just so Bristol. You’ll learn how to create stencils to capture the iconic scene of hot air balloons drifting over the suspension bridge. The perfect addition to any Bristol home.

Private Pottery Wheel Workshop for Two, £150

This popular ceramics workshop is held at the cool and quirky Trylla on North Street. You’ll be taught the basics of pottery throwing on the wheel before making a selection of your own pots which you can paint on the day for glazing and firing.

Learn to Knit for Beginners, £40

In a knitter’s heaven surrounded by colourful balls of yarn, you can learn how to knit in this comprehensive introduction hosted by the lovely Jacki from The Woolly Badger. Summer is a great time to start knitting because you’ll be an expert before woolly knit season comes about.

Clay Club: Self-Directed Play Time at Trylla, £20

This hands-off pottery workshop lets you get stuck into clay at your own pace. You’ll be given a choice of clays and access to all the tools and equipment at Trylla on North Street to make whatever clay creation your heart desires.

Beginners Ring Making Workshop, £80

This workshop is an introduction to the art of silversmithing. Using recycled silver you will learn traditional jewellery-making techniques to create your own ring. Silver & Steel studio will help you with sizes and styles of silver so you can make something truly unique.

Farahway’s Crafternoon Tea, £42

The traditional afternoon tea just had a very creative makeover. Enjoy a delicious handmade afternoon tea in Bedminster and choose something to make from an array of crafts at Farahway’s craft cafe. Great as a gift or to catch up over some tea and cake.

Learn Tunisian Crochet, £40

Tunisian crochet is like a blend between knitting and crochet, blending the best of both worlds to create a beautiful, dense fabric with lots of wiggle room for embellishments and flair. This workshop is perfect for crafters wanting to pick up a new and unusual skill.

Summer Art Club for Kids, £30

This four-hour workshop for kids aged 7-12 is perfect for little creatives that want to get stuck in with all sorts of arty materials. Bookmaking, sculpture, textile printing, and clay are just some of the workshops held. A great way for kids to make new friends this summer.

Weave Your Own Coasters, £45
