Christmas Time, Mistletoe and Wine…and food

By Bristol24/7  Friday Dec 9, 2016

Christmas is a time for eating all of the food, if you’re planning a festive get together, dinner with friends or you’ve left organising the office team meal until last minute we’ve handpicked the best of Bristol’s independents to bring you some alternative Christmas dinner suggestions.

Cafe Kino

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

The menu is entirely vegan but carnivorous types would be wise to leave any preconceptions at the door, we challenge you to find anything but satisfaction with these delights! Try feasting on one of Cafe Kino’s famous burgers, a delicious jamboree of beans, carrots, beetroot and oats, herbs and seeds.

We were personally enamoured by their broccoli and peanut butter soup accompanied by fresh, homemade bread and dairy-free butter.

In addition to serving delicious food, the eatery boosts workers’ co-operative status. So you can sleep (and eat) well with the knowledge that all profits go back into the local community…can’t get more Bristol than that!

Hart’s Bakery

Whilst not strictly a contender for Christmas dinner, it has gained a reputation for fine, fast, delicious hot food, Friday’s fish finger sarnie is definitely something to write home about.

Celebratory Christmas breakfast anyone? Complete with fresh organic orange juice, elderflower presse or steaming hot coffee……Oh, and those brownies!! Just remember, get there early as they close at 3pm

Arch 35, Lower Approach Rd, Temple Meads BS1 6QS

The Station Kitchen

Unfussy, great value, tasty food and drink. With a focus on locally sourced and organic feel good food, whilst also supporting the environment. The mezze of the day is great, and perfect for sharing for a festive meal with pals

Koh Thai Tapas

Shrug off the shackles of the three-course meal, you’ll be having enough of that on Christmas Day. Sink into a sofa and let them make you a Caipirinha and indulge in some Thai delights

7-9 Triangle South, Bristol BS8 1EY

To The Moon

If a liquid lunch is what you are after, then you’ll love To The Moon. Complete with artisan cocktails and local craft beer the decor comprises reclaimed furniture with a boutique twist.

The Square Club

For something a bit special and if you just can’t bring yourself to eat anything other than Turkey will all the trimmings, then The Square Club is perfect for the traditionalists. They also serve a mean cocktail…treat yourself, it’s Christmas after all!  Set in Berkeley Square just off Clifton Triangle you can take a walk through Brandon Hill afterwards and burn off that delicious feast!

Bar Buvette

A little bit of French flair in Bristol and a favourite on the Wriggle App. The owners also run an auberge and restaurant in the Auvergne so it’s an authentic experience. In a rustic setting the menu changes regularly but whatever is on offer you’re bound to be impressed, and coupled with some excellent wines it’s ideal for Christmas date night.

31 Baldwin St, Bristol BS1 1RG

The Old Market Assembly

Part bar, part restaurant, part theatre and part music venue, it’s a cosy choice on a cold winter’s evening with candles, great food and excellent beer selection.

As much as possible they source ethical, nutritious and good quality food locally. Whether you’re going for a pizza or a roast, their welcoming atmosphere will keep you there longer than you planned!  Keep an eye on Wriggle for offers!

Spoke & Stringer

Another choice from the team at Wriggle! Down in the floating harbour next to the old gas works, it’s tucked away, but well worth the stroll down there. Down under those old arches you’ll find some tasty tapas and pintxos, brunches and local craft beers and ciders.

You’ll be made to feel welcome by owner Kristian Crews and his team and with a creative menu and lively atmosphere it’s perfect for a festive get together. No wonder they’ve made it into the Good Food Guide 2017!
