Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2025, day 4: FareShare South West
FareShare South West has a simple but incredibly important mission: to join the dots between food waste and hunger.
The charity works to achieve this by rescuing tonnes of high-quality surplus food and acting as a bridge between suppliers and producers and organisations on the frontline who can redistribute food to those who need it most – turning an environmental problem into “lasting social good”.
This year, more than 1,300 parcels containing food essentials, recipe kits and activity packs will be shared with families attending winter holiday clubs in and around Bristol.
The hope is to bring them health, dignity and hopefully a way out of poverty.

The winter parcels project runs alongside the charity’s usual operations
“The joy and abundance we witness throughout the festive season can be particularly difficult for the many people whose reality is very different,” said the charity’s CEO, Lucy Bearn.
“For hundreds of families in Bristol, the school holidays mean no free school meals and a struggle just to put enough food on the table.
“Our winter parcels project acts as a lifeline to more than 1,000 families across Bristol.
“But more than this, it spreads joy, bringing a sense of occasion to families and communities.”

FareShare South West rescues good quality surplus food that would otherwise go to waste to fight poverty and empower communities
FareShare South West is running its Big Give Christmas Challenge until December 9, where every £1 donated will be matched up to £100,000.
This will make possible hundreds of winter parcels, extra food to support homeless and vulnerably housed people and free-range turkey legs for 1,200 Christmas dinners.
