Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2025, day 2: Caring in Bristol
Caring in Bristol was founded in 1987 to address a critical gap in support for people experiencing homelessness during Christmas and the new year.
What began as a Christmas response initiative has, over nearly four decades, transformed into a vital organisation offering year-round services to prevent homelessness and support those facing a housing crisis.
The charity’s ambition is clear: to build a city empowered to solve homelessness.
Their comprehensive approach ranges from producing essential handbooks that guide individuals to city-wide services to running a purpose-built emergency youth shelter.
In one year, Caring in Bristol has provided 848 nights of energy youth accommodation and supported 267 people with food and housing information.

The Caring in Bristol handbooks are free, annual resources that provide information on services and support for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Bristol
The charity’s Caring at Christmas initiative is the largest Christmas homelessness project in the South West, providing a pop-up day centre with meals, resources and entertainment during the festive period.
Currently, Caring in Bristol is running its crucial Big Give Christmas Challenge. From Tuesday until midday on December 9, every public donation made is doubled by supporters.
“Our 2025 appeal focuses on Bristol Goods Food Club, a project tackling food poverty while connecting people with our homelessness prevention team during the winter months and beyond,” the charity writes.
“The funds raised will directly support our three weekly food clubs, providing affordable and nutritious food, one-to-one support, and a welcoming community during the coldest and most challenging time of year.”
