Bristol is a City That Never Stops Raising the Bar

By Advertising Feature  Saturday Mar 7, 2026

Bristol is always seen as a great place for a night out and 2026 is no different. It’s set to be one of the city’s years entertainment-wise. There are world-renowned theatre productions taking place and major music festivals. Then there’s the thriving food and drinks scene, which sees restaurants and bars popping up at a rapid pace.

The after-dark landscape of the city is exciting, no matter where in Bristol someone is looking. There’s still plenty to enjoy from the sofa too, whether it’s sitting in watching Netflix or playing fun games on BOYLE Casino. Bristol is undoubtedly a city that knows how to have a good time whether you stay in or go out.

Named One of the World’s Best Destinations
It’s not just locals who have a high opinion of Bristol. Lonely Planet named it as one of the world’s top 50 destinations in its 2026 rankings. It is growing in reputation as a place for people to visit to have a great time and to live.

That recognition was not something that came about by accident. Bristol’s entertainment scene is one of the most diverse and dynamic in the UK. There’s a legendary music heritage, as the city that gave the world Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky and Roni Size, as well as a food and drink culture that punches well above its weight, an arts scene of genuine international standing, and a nightlife that regularly draws visitors from across the country.

The nightlife is a big attraction point and becoming increasingly popular for all sorts of trips from friend groups. There’s many fun bars and great live music to enjoy. The nightlife of the city is most pronounced when the sun goes down.

The Greatest Showman
Bristol has made a very impressive feature by hosting the world premiere of the new stage version of The Greatest Showman. This took place in March at the Bristol Hippodrome. It’s set to be a massive hit on Broadway and the West End over the next year, so having the premiere in Bristol and not in London is a big sign that Bristol is a city that’s right at the centre of people’s minds.

Other great shows taking place at the Hippodrome this year include Matilda, Legally Blonde, and Annie. It’s one of the best years that the venue has ever hosted. The Bristol Old Vic is another notable destination, as it’s the longest continuously operating theatre in the English speaking world.

Summer Festivals That Are Eye Catching
The summer is defined by massively popular festivals in Bristol. The schedule is something that is truly exceptional for people in and around the city. Bristol Sounds is due to return to the Harbourside Amphitheatre in June 2026 with a stellar set of acts including The Streets, The Kooks and Super Furry Animals. The Streets are set to play A Grand Don’t Come For Free for the first time ever in full. This is a once in a lifetime experience for one of the best British albums ever produced.

Love Saves The Day returns to Ashton Court on 23-24 May 2026 with its line-up of D&B, dance and electronic headline performers. It’s consistently one of the must attend events on the bank holiday weekends in the South West. Valley Fest is another core part of the festival tradition, which combines great music with fine local food.

A quirky event is the biggest hot air balloon festival in Europe, with more than 100 balloons taking off and flying over Bristol. This is a spectacle worth seeing at least once in a person’s life.

Thriving Restaurants and Bar Scene
A new wave of openings is changing the setup of the food and drink scene in Bristol heading into the summer. Hotel Gotham is opening with a rooftop terrace bar and has been in the works for many years. The historic building at the former Guildhall is one of the most recognisable in town and has been out of commission since 2010. Its transformation into a five star venue makes it one of the most anticipated openings for many years in the city.

One of the biggest areas of growth in recent years has been the activity bar idea. Visitors can try their hand at social darts, cocktails and sharing plates at Flight Club on Corn Street, take on the batting challenge at Sixes Social Cricket and Sports Bar, play nine-hole mini golf at Par 59 on Millennium Square, or don orange jumpsuits at Alcotraz Bristol for cocktails made from smuggled spirits in a jail-themed experience.

There’s a great range of options for birthdays, nights out, or family occasions. People who prefer more of a nightclub vibe will enjoy the two dancefloors at Circuit, drum and bass at Lakota, house at The Electric Bristol, and open air raves at The Prospect Building. There’s something for everyone in the clubbing scene in Bristol.

A City for Every Kind of Night Out
What makes Bristol such a special destination for entertainment is that there’s a massive range of options. Everything from world-class musicals to rooftop cocktails in a brand new five star hotel, or booming clubs for every music taste, it’s a city that has it all.

Bristol also has a Purple Flag status for many of its most famous structures which shows that it either meets or surpasses the standards of excellence in nightlife. Visitors can enjoy all the amazing nightlife in the knowledge that the city is striving to keep people as safe and comfortable as possible.

2026 is increasingly looking to be a vintage year for Bristol with the new hotels, restaurants, festivals, world premieres, landmark anniversaries, and a summer calendar full of outdoor entertainment. This is a great time for both visitors and residents to enjoy everything that this city has to offer. With it being very accessible by car, train, and plane, Bristol is only going to grow in prominence as the years go by.
