Pub of the Week: The Queen’s Head

By Lowie Trevena  Friday Jun 7, 2019

When I ask the bartender at the Queen’s Head if he takes cards, he laughs and says: “I take anything. Card, cash, your soul.”

A grey-haired man sat at the bar sipping from a can of Natch Cider joins in. “As long as you’re buying a drink,” he says. “He don’t care.”

This Victorian-era Eastville pub is sparsely decorated, with two large rooms and what feels like nowhere near enough tables and people to fill the space.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

But the warm welcome from the server and regulars at the bar make the place feel cosy and friendly.

There is a simple, sun-trap garden at the rear of the Queen’s Head

The pub serves a basic range of spirits and there’s a fridge full to the brim with cans. There are several classics on tap, as well as Bob ale from Wickwar and Butcombe Original.

It’s a sunny evening and too nice to sit indoors, so it’s a bonus that the  Queen’s Head has a spacious pub garden. Something of a sun trap, several tables are already taken by smokers enjoying the sun and a pint of cider.

Pubs and bars in this area of Bristol are somewhat few and far between (the closest pubs in either direction are The Star in Fishponds and The Greenbank in Easton).

The Queen’s Head remains a welcoming and friendly local nestled among the shops and homes on Fishponds Road.
