A-Z Bristol Pub Crawl, The Jersey Lily, Whiteladies Road
A framed print of ‘Pub stops of Bristol’ – a trip around our city’s watering holes based on Harry Beck’s famous London Underground map – is on one wall of the Jersey Lily.
One visitor to the top of Whiteladies Road on a recent Friday after work speculated that this location might well be the best served for pubs in the whole of Bristol.
Also on Blackboy Hill is the King’s Arms, and just up from there is the Port of Call on York Street, the Coach & Horses on Highland Square and the Beaufort Arms on High Street; all just a few hundred yards from each other.

Older versions of the map will also have had the former Red Lion on Worrall Road and the former Blackboy Inn on Whiteladies Road.
“We had an altercation with a pint sliding off a table,” one man on a squeaky stool told his mates soon after arriving at their table, having already been to one of the other nearby pubs still serving beer.
As the sun began to set on this Friday evening, one regular was playing Shut the Box with the two members of staff while they were not pouring pints.
Other customers wandered in, the game of Shut the Box still being played on one side of the bar as a gin and tonic was served to one punter without her even having to ask.
The Jersey Lily is named after Lillie Langtry, a Victorian socialite and actress who was also the mistress of the future King Edward VII when he was prince of Wales.
This pub is now owned by Wickwar Wessex with the admirer of the pub stops map wondering how many of their other establishments it would be possible to visit over the course of the upcoming weekend.
