Three Bristol eateries named among UK’s best local restaurants

By Karen Johnson  Wednesday Jul 16, 2025

Three Bristol restaurants have been named among the finest in the UK in a list celebrating the country’s best.

All 100 restaurants on the Good Food Guide’s annual list of Best Local Restaurants are applauded as  “neighbourhood gems, where good food and genuine hospitality go hand in hand”.

Kyu Jeong Jeon and Duncan Robertson’s first restaurant, Bokman, has been called a “modest but wholly authentic restaurant” serving some of the best Korean food in the UK. The restaurant on Stokes Croft that opened in 2019 is most popular for its wood-fire roasted chicken stuffed with sticky rice – tongdak – a dish that, according to the guide, has “captured everyone’s imagination”.

Little Hollows Pasta, which was recently awarded a Bib Gourmand, has been praised for its “expertly made pasta” that Chris Davis and team can often be seen handcrafting through the restaurant’s shopfront window.  In just over four years, this “laid-back pasta emporium” on Chandos Road has made itself a firm spot in Bristol’s food and drink scene.

Other in Bedminster is the only other restaurant from Bristol to be on the 15th edition of this annual list. The restaurant owned by Zak Hitchman and Emma Lyons is described as a “kitsch, colourful and extremely good value” small-plates diner, which stands out with its orange walls and “difficult-to-define” menu. The restaurant that opened only in October 2024 also recently became the recipient of a Bib Gourmand.

In the list categorised by regions, Cornwall-based bar and restaurant Counter Culture was crowned 2025’s South West winner for being an “escape to a back street of Barcelona or Lisbon”.

Created in partnership with Square, the list was first drawn up based on thousands of public nominations, which were then shortlisted by experts into finalists, followed by anonymous visits to each restaurant by Good Food inspectors. The publication’s editors then make the call on which restaurants receive the “prestigious” title of the Best Local Restaurant.

Bokman, Little Hollows Pasta and Other have all been recommended by panellists in Bristol24/7’s annual food and drink publication, EatDrink24/7 that can be read virtually here or picked up from cafes, bars, pubs, shops or restaurants across Bristol.
