Sister restaurants nominated for UK Curry Awards
Two sister restaurants have been shortlisted for the 15th Asian Curry Awards 2025, dubbed the “Curry Oscars”.
Raj Bari Indian Restaurant and Achari Indian Kitchen will both represent Bristol at the prestigious event, which celebrates excellence and innovation across the UK’s South Asian dining scene.
Raj Bari and Achari share the same management group but retain their own distinct identities and a healthy competition.
Founded in 1991 and based on Anchor Road, Raj Bari is led by head chef Johirul Alam, who has spent more than 25 years at the restaurant and is known for combining traditional Indian and Bangladeshi dishes with a modern flair.

“This nomination is a proud moment not only for our team but for the Bristol community we’ve proudly served for decades,” said Alam.
“We’re grateful for the support and excited to represent the South West at the Asian Curry Awards.”
Raj Bari previously won Best Restaurant in the South West at the ARTA Awards 2023 and continues to be noted for its rich flavours.
Meanwhile, Achari Indian Kitchen, based on Cotham Hill, has also made the shortlist for the second consecutive year, marking another milestone for the family-run business.
Achari has been a fixture in the area for more than 30 years, which previously traded under Indian Ocean.
The Indian-Bangladeshi restaurant, which was crowned best Asian restaurant in South West last year, is hoping to go one better this year.

Manager Kamrul Islam said: “We’re incredibly proud and grateful to be nominated for the Asian Curry Awards again this year.
“Receiving recognition at the House of Lords earlier this year was a huge honour, and to now be shortlisted among the best in the country once more is truly humbling. None of this would be possible without our amazing team and the loyal support of our customers.”

Organised by the Asian Catering Federation, the awards honour the best in Asian and South Asian cuisine across the UK, recognising quality, creativity and contribution to the industry.
The national awards ceremony will take place at London’s Grosvenor House on Sunday November 16.
