New cafe and roastery opens in south Bristol
Jon Fowler has been roasting coffee at the Boona Boona roastery in Bedminster on his own for the last six months and now has company with a cafe opening within the same space.
Boona Boona is located on Windmill Farm Business Centre on Bartley Street, sandwiched between East Street and Windmill Hill City Farm.
Within a former air conditioning repair business, the cafe and roastery is on the ground floor while hidden on the floor above is the Tattooed Tea Cup, a tattoo studio where Jon’s friend Katy Howarth currently works.

Jon started roasting coffee in his shed at home in Totterdown before moving to a unit in Staple Hill.
The original Boona Boona cafe was on Wells Road but it was always Jon’s plan to combine the two sides to his business, with customers in the cafe now able to watch him hard at work on the ten-kilo roaster.

“Even when I was sat in the shed, the dream was to have the roastery and the cafe together,” Jon explained to Bristol24/7 on a recent morning.
“It has been a long process to get here. It feels a bit, ‘wow, I have actually done it!'”

On the retail shelves are Boona Boona coffees roasted with beans from across the world, with the design of each bag an illustration of a celebration from the country of origin
The cafe is currently open from Tuesday to Sunday, with manager Grace Herrick-Jones, from Wellington in New Zealand, previously a barista at the former Boston Tea Party on Cheltenham Road.
There are currently cakes from Crumbs in Keynsham and pastries from Cakesmiths in St Phillip’s, with cheese toasties made to order alongside a wide variety of expertly made coffees, all roasted on site by Jon.
