Fish and chip shop to reopen under original founder

By Martin Booth  Friday Oct 17, 2025

A fish and chip shop is being reopened by one of its former owners, keeping alive a century-old tradition.

The previous Fishminster owner, Peter Adams, ran the restaurant for the last decade until his recent retirement.

Now, the founder of the North Street business, which opened under its current name in 2009, is returning to reopen the premises.

There has been a chippy here since the early 1930s and the site is set to be reopening soon.

A sign in the window says: “After an extensive refurbishment, your favourite traditional English fish & chip shop is returning under its original founder’s management.

“Come and experience the return of proper British fish & chips – golden, crispy and freshly cooked to perfection.

“A proud local tradition, returning even better than before.”
