Kebab pop-up to open first permanent premises in former Pizza Hut

By Betty Woolerton  Friday Jan 28, 2022

The team behind a successful pop-up in Bristol have announced they will be opening their first bricks and mortar premises in a prime location.

Up until now, Hoba Kebab, a street food business serving fresh chargrilled kebabs, has operated as a pop-up or stall on a temporary basis only.

But plans to change this have been revealed by the team behind Hoba, Hope Bainbridge and Annie, who will be opening a permanent restaurant.

Hoba’s new home will be in what for many years was Pizza Hut restaurant on St Augustine’s Parade on the centre.

Hope and Annie founded Hoba after being inspired by Berlin’s kebab houses during a visit, hoping to recreate the meaty German staple back home in the UK.

Since 2017, they have traded at food markets around Bristol, including at the Harbourside Market and Finzels Reach.

Hoba has also has taken over kitchens at various pubs, including Old Market’s Volunteer Tavern and the Robin Hood on St Michael’s Hill.

The pop-up business is currently operating from the bar Kongs on Kings Street.

Hope and Annie said they were “feeling very excited and very proud and very terrified” on getting the keys for their first restaurant.

In an announcement on Instagram, they wrote: “We’re finally opening our first ever sparkly restaurant for you all to enjoy. Right opposite where it all began – where Hoba did its first ever market all those years ago.”

“In the meantime, we’re business as usual at Kongs whilst we work away at the new place. Can’t wait to open our doors to you all!”
