City centre cafe hopes to move into shipping container

By Martin Booth  Monday Nov 5, 2018

A popular cafe on the centre that was almost forced to close due to the disruption caused by the Metrobus works has ambitious plans for its continued future.

Just Ground hopes to move out of their current kiosk and into a converted shipping container before the end of the year.

The cafe’s new home will be slightly bigger, with a few seats for customers inside and a large awning to protect those sitting outside from the rain.

“I’m feeling very optimistic,” co-owner Arrow Jie told Bristol24/7. “Especially with the support from our regulars.”

Just Ground’s current kiosk on the centre will be for sale once permission to move into the shipping container is secured from the city council

Plans for Just Ground’s new home have been in the making for around three years, before the arrival of the converted shipping containers into Cargo at Wapping Wharf.

As well as the new indoor seating and awning, Arrow and his business partner Fency Feng envisage more food options in their new cafe, which will be called Ka:Fei, the Chinese word for coffee.

“We think that a shipping container will be a much better match for the history of Bristol, especially here with the docks and the harbour,” Arrow added.

“We’ll definitely be doing more stuff coffee-wise and food-wise, but we don’t want to change a lot.

“If we can manage, we will do the food that I can eat, like Asian fusion. I’m not going to do bacon sandwiches. That’s the plan!”
