Cheesemongers open Bristol’s ‘most exclusive’ bar
A popular cheesemongers is now also the destination for the city’s “most exclusive bar”, serving regionally sourced wine, beer, cider and more.
Weeks after The Bristol Cheesemonger decided to pull down the shutters of their Wapping Wharf shop, the team have now opened a bar within their Gloucester Road premises.
New signage, painted by Hannah from Paper Walls Signs on the shop front, beckons visitors inside to taste their selection of tipples paired with an array of cheese options.

Speaking to Bristol24/7, co-owner Oli Smith said: “We’ve built up a fantastic range of West Country fine ciders, incredibly small batch local beers and a selection of brilliant soft drinks from within and around Somerset.
“We’ve also got some excellent house wines which we sell by the glass.
“Of course, all can be served with a cheeseboard, locally made crackers and chutneys. The perfect chance to taste a bit of what we do here at the Bristol Cheesemonger!”
Smith and his wife, Jenny Howell, took over the running of the Bristol Cheesemonger from its previous owner, Rosie Morgan, in 2021.
In 2024 the husband and wife pair opened their Gloucester Road premises which has since become a firm favourite among cheese lovers.
The new bar remains open during normal business hours of the shop, with Smith emphasising plans to unveil a garden area later in the summer.
