Bristol’s first Popeyes to open
The first Popeyes in Bristol is just one of dozens due to open across the UK in 2025.
The brand founded in New Orleans in 1972 is expanding rapidly, with Popeyes opening in Avonmeads retail park on Friday morning and two more already being planned for Clifton and Longwell Green.
Expect queues on Friday outside what used to be Krispy Kreme as the first four customers on foot and the first four in vehicles will receive a year’s worth of free chicken sandwiches, and the first 100 people in the queue will get a free chicken sandwich and merchandise.

Popeyes specialise in chicken
Popeyes CEO Tom Crowley lives in Iron Acton and grew up in Coalpit Heath.
Crowley has been CEO of Popeyes in the UK for four years having previously been managing director at Giraffe restaurants and then CEO of Giraffe’s parent company, Boparan, which also has brands including Gourmet Burger Chicken and Slim Chickens.
“Bristol we know will do fantastically well,” Crowley told Bristol24/7.
“As a Bristolian, I know what this city likes. It likes the independent restaurants and that’s a big part of Bristol… but brands also do well in Bristol and I think it’s just balancing those two things.”
