Breaking Bread and Arbor Ales come together to create new IPA

By Lowie Trevena  Thursday Apr 15, 2021

An all-new fresh session IPA has been created as part of a new collaboration between two of Bristol’s big food and drink names.

Breaking Bread, the village of tipis on the Downs home to a host of restaurants and a pub, and Easton-based Arbor Ales have come together to create Breaking Brews.

Launched as Breaking Bread reopens its Pipe & Lovers pub garden, for every pint of the new IPA bought, 50p will go towards funding Breaking Bread’s new Team Canteen.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

A fully equipped kitchen and events space that will host pop ups and fundraisers, as well as providing education and training opportunities, Team Canteen will fight food vulnerability in the city.

“The Team Canteen is a very important project at a very important time,” says Breaking Bread co-founder, Josh Eggleton. “It will be a space to support training and work opportunities for young people, helping them get past the barriers into work.

“It’s also used as a meal production facility for emergency and community food provision, supporting projects such as Breaking Bread’s at-home ready meals scheme, which is directly helping to feed some of the city’s most at risk.”

From April and September 2021, the Team Canteen project is expected to produce more than 26,000 free meals for people in Bristol facing food vulnerability and will provide a 6-month paid work experience programme for 12 young people.

It will also provide shorter training opportunities for other groups and host more than 20 fundraising events for community food organisations.

“It’s great to be collaborating with the team at Breaking Bread, as soon as we heard about this project, we knew it was something we wanted to be part of,” says Jamie Cansdale, Arbor Ales’ business development manager.

“Our suppliers here at Arbor have been incredible in their support. Free malt has been supplied by Warminster Maltings and the can labels were provided free of charge by Label Express. That support has been pivotal in getting this first batch brewed.”

The Breaking Brews IPA will also be available via the Arbor Ales online shop and throughout Bristol at a number of retailers. No matter where the pint can sold, Arbor Ales will donate 50p to Team Canteen.
