Theatre West to offer writer support packages
After 17 years of producing work at Bristol’s Alma Tavern Theatre, last year saw Bristol’s excellent Theatre West hitting the road and taking their ten-week season to five venues across Bristol and Exeter (productions included Tom Phillips’ Coastal Defences, pictured).
Now, to mark the company’s first year of freedom, Theatre West are inviting writers to apply for one of five bespoke ‘packages’ of support to develop a piece of work celebrating the theme of ‘Moving On’ for production in autumn 2015.
“We are keen to offer writers the chance to challenge and develop their practice by working in ways that wouldn’t usually be possible – maybe to collaborate with another artist, work intensively with a dramaturg or director, make a research trip – or something else entirely,” explains Ann Stiddard, TW’s Joint Artistic Director.
In addition to a £1000 fee (paid on receipt of final script) each writer will receive a ‘budget’ of 10 points to be spent over a five-month development period, in order to create a bespoke package of support. Points can be redeemed against dramaturgical support, workshops with a director and actors, work with a sound designer and others.
Interested writers should submit an initial proposal outlining details of the piece they would like to write, and explaining why they would benefit from this support.
Applicants should live and work in the South West and have had at least one play produced.
Deadline for receipt of applications is Friday 16 January.
