Redgrave Theatre postpones all remaining 2020 shows

By Martin Booth  Monday Aug 17, 2020

Bosses of a Clifton theatre have made “the very difficult decision” to postpone all their remaining shows this year, including the Christmas pantomime.

The Redgrave Theatre and its box office remains closed, but tickets are still on sale for shows throughout 2021.

Theatre manager Sue Ellicott said: “The impact of Covid-19 has been devastating for the theatre and live entertainment industry, and whilst we are working closely with Bristol City Council and other city venues to explore ways of reopening safely, the reality is that whilst social distancing measures are still in place, we must remain closed for the foreseeable future.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“We know this will be disappointing for you, as it is for us, however we are wholly committed to the health and wellbeing of our staff and community and is therefore the safest action for us to take at this time.”

Ellicott added that she and her small team are continuing to work hard behind the scenes, with “some exciting new show announcements for 2021”.

Built in 1966, the Redgrave was originally known as the Clifton College Theatre. It was the country’s first purpose built school theatre, with a design based on the Mermaid Theatre in the City of London.
