These Mercury Prize nominees are coming to Bristol in 2018
The 12 nominees for this year’s Mercury Prize were announced on Thursday and many of those shortlisted for the prestigious album award are set to play various Bristol venues before the end of the year.
Both Noel Gallagher and Nadine Shah, nominated for their albums Who Built The Moon? and Holiday Destination, are set to play the Downs Festival on September 1.
Former Oasis star Gallagher is set to headline the festival with his band High Flying Birds.
Shah, a 32-year-old singer-songwriter born in Tyneside to an English mother of part Norwegian ancestry and a Pakistani father, is lower down on the bill but is an act not to be missed.
Jorja Smith, previous BRITS Critics Choice winner, has already sold out the Bristol O2 Academy on October 5 as part of her biggest ever UK tour to date. She was nominated for her debut album Lost and Found which features hits such as On My Mind and Blue Lights.
The final Mercury-shortlisted act due to play Bristol this year is Sons of Kemet, receiving their first ever nomination for their album Your Queen Is A Reptile and who are playing the Fleece on October 29.
The Mercury Prize is an annual music prize awarded to the best British or Irish album released in the UK. The winner of the 2018 award will be announced in a ceremony at London’s Eventim Apollo on September 20.
