The Naturals come of age
For once the phrase ‘long awaited debut’ isn’t an exaggeration. Faces on the Bristol scene for well over a decade, The Naturals formed when most of the members weren’t yet in their teens.
They’ve since matured into one of the city’s most artful bands, with a dubby, psychedelic take on alternative rock that draws heavily on the influence of electronic music.
It’s a genuinely original and contemporary sound – one that could only have been arrived at by a band who’ve been playing together for years – and it makes more sense than ever over a full length set.
Creatively produced by Dominic Mitchison (Velcro Hooks) and Seb Gainsborough (Vessel), Hive is one of the best albums to come out of Bristol in 2015 and will surely appeal to fans of leftfield guitar music far beyond the band’s home town.
Hive is available now from howlingowlrecords.bigcartel.com and Rise on Queens Road.
Don’t miss the launch show at Thekla on November 27, which features support from Bristol art-pop luminary Oliver Wilde and relative newcomers Dwell.
