BIMM Bristol Summer School

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday May 10, 2016

Every parent knows just how difficult it can be to fill those long weeks of the school summer holidays with exciting things to keep your kids engaged and smiling. Well…if your kids are budding musicians, then BIMM Bristol has the perfect solution.

The British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM for short) is the UK and Europe’s most connected music college, offering real-world training in studies such as guitar, bass, drums, vocals, songwriting, music production, music business, event management and music journalism, across its six colleges in Bristol, London, Berlin, Dublin, Brighton and Manchester.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

BIMM is the place for students whose ultimate goal is a long and sustainable career in the music industry, and past BIMM Bristol graduates have included George Ezra (see video above), house duo Blonde’s Jacob Manson and Adam Englefield, and Jordan Cook of psychedelic band Telegram

BIMM Bristol is running two five-day music summer schools from Monday, July 25, to Friday, July 29, (Radar), and Monday, August 1, to Friday, August 5, (Marshall). Guitarists, bassists, drummers and vocalists can take part, as long as they’re aged 11+ and are not absolute beginners at their instrument. The courses are a great way for your child to not only develop their musical technique and improve their confidence as a live performer, but to have fun and meet like-minded new friends too.

Opportunities to meet people

The Radar Summer School in July has been specifically developed for those who love classic indie rock and pop, and students will strut their stuff to artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The Marshall Summer School in August is powered by the world famous British company Marshall Amplification and is for musicians who are into metal, punk and hard rock, and like to perform with their amps turned up to 11.

The Marshall course is for the rockers

Summer School students will spend mornings learning to play and perform songs by popular artists in their chosen genre, before recording the tracks in our King Square studio and participating in live performance workshops on stage every afternoon. Then on the Friday, they’ll form bands and will perform their favourite song live at an awesome end-of-week gig in front of tutors, family and friends.

All students will have access to BIMM Bristol’s first-class music facilities and will receive dedicated tuition and guidance from expert BIMM tutors, who in the past have included Damon Minchella (Ocean Colour Scene), James Hester (Malakai) and Elliot May (Basement Jaxx).

Attendees will also receive direct input from a different music industry special guest each day, with past visitors including Ben Thompson (Two Door Cinema Club drummer), Ace (Skunk Anansie guitarist) and Adam Pitts (Lawson drummer).

Plus, all students will have a chance to win a whole host of goodies and giveaways, such as guitars, amps, cymbals, gig tickets and more, courtesy of BIMM’s renowned music industry partners.

Summer school places cost just £299 per person for the five-day stretch.
