Wildscreen issues call for Panda Award entries
Bristol’s biennial Wildscreen Festival is always a treat for natural history enthusiasts, bringing the cream of the world’s wildlife film-making to the city. But it’s also an important date in the industry calendar, attracting delegates from around the globe for the Panda Awards – or ‘Green Oscars’.

Those Panda Awards, waiting to be dished out
The last festival back in October 2016 attracted 900 entries from 10 countries. Seven local independent companies were shortlisted, alongside the Beeb’s big-hitting Natural History Unit. Our eventual tally was eight Pandas, which were presented at a suitably glittering Colston Hall bash hosted by Sir David Attenborough.
So can we top this achievement next year? Well, an extraordinary 40% of all wildlife film productions come through the Bristol – or ‘Green Hollywood’ as our friends in PR like to put it – so we’re in with an excellent chance. And the timing of this call for entries couldn’t be better. “We’re thrilled to launch our 2018 competition on the same day when our home city has been announced as a UNESCO City of Film,” notes Wildscreen CEO Lucie Muir. “The Panda Awards have sat at the heart of the Wildscreen Festival since they were presented at the first Festival back in 1982 and they remain the highest honour in the international wildlife film and TV industry.”
