Vic and Bob receive Aardman Slapstick award
Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer were this year’s recipients of the Aardman Slapstick Comedy Award in front of a packed audience at the Old Vic last night (Sun 25 Jan). The award is dished out each year by the Slapstick festival and Aardman to “a current film or TV performer whose excellence at visual humour and physical comedy makes them worthy heirs to the earliest silent film comedians.” Previous winners have been Eric Sykes, Michael Palin, Barry Humphries, The Goodies and June Whitfield.
Vic and Bob’s award recognises the duo’s 25 year contribution to visual comedy through such TV shows such as Big Night Out, Shooting Stars and the recent House of Fools. The presentation of personalised Morph and Chas trophies was made by Aardman co-founder David Sproxton during an evening that included goodwill messages from the likes of Damien Hirst, Shooting Stars team captain Ulrika Johnsson and comedians Jo Brand, Jack Dee, Charlie Higson and Matt Lucas.
