Tim Vine confirmed as host of 2018 Slapstick gala
King of the one-liner Tim Vine has just been revealed as the celebrity guest host of the Slapstick Festival‘s annual gala at the Colston Hall on January 26. As with all of Slapstick’s big-hearted, big-name guests, he’s doing the gig fee-free. See our previous news story for more on what you can expect at the gala.
The sell-out success of this year’s two big Slapstick fund-raisers – the French & Saunders event at Colston Hall and the upcoming Rob Brydon, Lee Mack and David Mitchell gig at the Hexagon in Reading – also means that January’s festival of silent and visual comedy will now run over four days instead of only three as initially thought. The new dates for your diary are Thursday 25 – Sunday 28 January. We’ll have full details of the programme when it’s announced.
In other Slapstick news, the Festival is joining forces with We the Curious (that’s @-Bristol in old money) to show the Buster Keaton comedy Steamboat Bill Jr on the Big Screen Bristol with live piano accompaniment from Daan van den Hurk. This is the stunt-packed Keaton classic that includes the legendary scene where a house falls down around old Stone Face. The screening takes place on Sunday 8 October, starting at 2pm. It’s all free of charge, with no need to book. Just turn up on the day.
