IMAX could soon return to Bristol
Bristol cinemagoers could finally be able to watch films on the biggest screen again, decades after the city’s only IMAX closed in 2007.
Odeon are preparing to open within the former Showcase Cinema De Lux in Cabot Circus, with an IMAX screen alongside luxury seating and their ‘isense’ experience which Odeon promise is their “clearest sound (and) brightest picture”.
A planning application submitted to Bristol City Council shows proposals for new illuminated cinema signs on the side of the building overlooking Bond Street.

Bristol’s former IMAX screen was originally part of the former @Bristol and WildWalk complex on Anchor Road, and has recently been reopened and rebranded as Bristol Megascreen, with the IMAX projector still in situ but no longer working.
Odeon currently has a city centre cinema on Union Street which will almost certainly close when the new Odeon opens in Cabot Circus.
