Fifth annual celebration of POC film culture comes to the Cube
Cables & Cameras‘ fifth annual Inspired film event comes to the Cube microplex on Saturday 5 July, promising “a vibrant community film culture experience dedicated to showcasing cutting-edge and legendary filmmakers of colour.”
The packed programme has day and evening sessions. The former includes a New Voices showcase, which comprises a selection of short films by UK-based filmmakers; ‘Reel Talk: Exploring Black Voices in Film’, which is billed as “a deep dive into the role of cinema for Black and Brown creatives”; and the premiere of Hard Food (pictured), which is described as “a raw, tender, and ultimately uplifting coming-of-age drama about heritage, identity, and the unexpected bonds that carry us home”, followed by a conversation with director Daniel Alexander hosted by Adam Murray from Bristol Black Horror Club.
The evening session includes the Bristol premiere of Bam Bam: The Sister Nancy Story (2024), which is billed as “an uplifting documentary about Jamaican dancehall DJ and singer Sister Nancy”, followed by DJ Style spinning a mix of reggae, R&B, and Hip Hop in the bar area.
Tickets are priced at £16/£12 (concessions) for both sessions, or £8/£6 for day tickets (2-6pm) and £10/£8 for evening tickets (7.30-11pm). Advance tickets are available here.
