Bristol’s week in film: August 6-12 2021

You’ve gotta hand it to the Stillwater publicists for grabbing headlines twice this week with Matt Damon’s alleged use of a homphobic slur and Amanda Knox’s objection to a film loosely based on her story. Also worthy of your attention is arthouse crossover release Zola, which makes history for being the first movie based on a Twitter thread.

The Film and Food Festival on the Downs continues this weekend with screenings of all the usual (Rocky Horror, Grease, etc). Those who are prepared to forego substance in favour of style, meanwhile, will be overjoyed to learn that the Watershed is in the midst of a major restrospective of work by acquired-taste filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai.
