Remember Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron? DreamWorks’ traditionally animated first Sprit flick managed to get nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature back in 2002, despite being rather dreary and achingly PC (as we used to call it back then). This sparked a Netflix franchise which has in turn spawned this CGI spin-off feature.

This time, a girl goes to live with her father over the summer in a small rural cmmunity, where she befriends a wild kiger mustang stallion that she names Spirit. US critics were mostly unimpressed, with the New York Times describing the film as a “bland, bubbly romp through the Wild West, with a heavy dose of girl power”.
