This week’s faltering blockbuster was The Mummy, which not only failed to dislodge Wonder Woman but also fell a little short of the opening weekend tally of Stephen Sommers’ previous reboot of the bandagefest way back in 1999. Once again, the increasing popularity of event cinema was demonstrated by another shattered record. The single live screening of Take That: Wonderland Live from the O2 took nearly twice as much at the box office as the saturation release of My Cousin Rachel. It also eclipsed the aging boy band’s earlier release, 2015’s Take That Live, to become the most successful one-night-only concert screening in the UK. Should you still wish to see this one, there are encore screenings on Sunday, 18 June. See our comprehensive film listings for details.
