As anticipated, Marvel sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 enjoyed a bumper opening weekend as it saw off the petrolheads of Fast & Furious 8, its £13m haul being more than double that of the first film. It now ranks as the second biggest opener of the year, just behind the all-conquering Beauty and the Beast. The Disney live-action flick also enjoyed a Bank Holiday boost to a total of £70m and now has the highest-grossing Harry Potter flick (that’s Deathly Hallows – Part 2, fact fans) in its sights as it continues to ascend the UK all-time top ten. Further down the chart, both the Hindi and Tamil-language versions of Bollywood blockbuster sequel Baahubali: The Conclusion proved more popular than the poorly received The Promise. Outside the top ten, Lady Macbeth is doing a roaring trade on a relatively small number of screens, crossover hit Get Out is on the verge of breaking through the £10m barrier, and I Am Not your Negro is now officially the most successful documentary of the year.
