It came fairly close after Christmas, but this week Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle achieved the unlikely feat of deposing Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which continues to fall fast. Still, these things are relative: The Last Jedi now ranks as the sixth biggest film of all time at the UK box office. With awards season yet to fully kick in, Molly’s Game was the highest new entry – though it’s worth noting that the film’s opening ‘weekend’ figure included £1m from four days of previews. Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World succeeded in grabbing the headlines but only did moderately well at the box office to grab sixth place. There was little interest in Hostiles, while the big loser was the Ben Stiller comedy Brad’s Status, which took just £33,000 nationwide. Paddington 2, meanwhile, remains unstoppable in its ninth week on release, powering through the £40m barrier and still taking more than £1m each weekend.
