Star Wars: The Last Jedi continues to lag around 30% behind The Force Awakens, but is about to become the UK’s highest grossing film released in 2017. Technically, however, it had taken ‘just’ £68m by the end of 2017, putting it a little behind last year’s box office champ Beauty and the Beast‘s £72m. In second place, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle continues to do a roaring trade after just two weeks on release and came pretty close to toppling the lightsaber brigade. This means we can probably expect Jumanji: Welcome Back to the Jungle in 2019 and Jumanji: Welcome Back to the Jungle Again in 2021. The Greatest Showman‘s bid to become this year’s La La Land seems unlikely to succeed, but that £4.7m opening is pretty strong given the stinky reviews. Meanwhile, Paddington 2 just keeps on going, with its takings now back up to the level its was enjoying a month ago.
