Bonnie & Clive storm Bristol cinema

By Robin Askew  Monday Nov 4, 2024

Billed as “a feelgood movie for these troubled times”, Kevin Short’s Bonnie & Clive was conceived during the pandemic years as a showcase for its West Country locations.

The story has Bonnie (Eleanor May Blackburn), a young woman with a dark secret, teaming up with young London busker Clive (Michael Kodi Farrow) and Wilco (Bristol Old Vic Theatre School student James Jip), a young superman of sorts, for a 300 mile road trip from London to Lands End. Along the way, the trio take in some familiar landmarks (Stonehenge, Dartmoor, The Eden Project, etc), Clive and Wilco uncover Bonnie’s shocking secret, and they finally arrive at the Cornish coast to sing their song of peace and freedom.

Among the talent behind the camera are musicians Milton Reame James (original Cockney Rebel keyboardist) and Mike Allison (producer for Andy Bell). The visual style is provided by Emmy nominated videographer Kathyrn S Kraus, and original ‘Rocky Horror Show’ costume designer Sue Blane MBE. Writer/director Kevin Short is an award-winning writer for stage and screen, who won Best New Play at the Edinburgh Festival and Best International Music Film at the NYC Independent Film Festival.
