Batman in Bristol for Legends of the Knight

By Robin Askew  Sunday Jan 31, 2016

Ashton Court Mansion is to be transformed into Wayne Manor for one night only for a charity event in aid of Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal.

The centrepiece of this exclusive black tie event on May 21 is the first local screening of US filmmaker Brett Culp’s well-received, low-budget, crowd-funded documentary, Legends of the Knight.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Not an actual Batman movie, this does the heart-warming, uplifting, tear-jerking thing by focusing on a bunch of people who’ve been inspired by the Gotham City crusader to do good deeds. And, yes, you’ll be delighted to learn that many of them squeeze into rubber outfits and strap on capes in order to bring joy to others.

Blokes doing the dressing-up thing include a fella who calls himself Petaluma Batman and wanders the streets of his hometown in California for no other reason than to make people smirk. Then there’s a wealthy businessman who tours kiddie hospitals in his much snazzier Batman outfit.

And, yes, the film also has the inevitable nipper with cancer who gets to be Batkid for a day.

The Ashton Court event is organised by Bristol-based podcasters Kenco & Mac, who promise “a few incredible surprises on the night” as the temporary Wayne Manor plays host to some of Gotham’s most revered citizens.

Advance tickets are available here, price £20.
