Autumn adventure film screening frenzy
The nights are drawing in and all but the most rufty-tufty of adventurers and extreme sports enthusiasts are battening down the hatches. What better way to get your adrenaline fix than from a comfy seat in a nice warm venue, preferably with a well-stocked bar? Fortunately, there are plenty to choose from this autumn. Eyes down for the line-up so far:
Ocean Film Festival World Tour
Tuesday September 15, Victoria Rooms
A big hit down under, the Ocean Film Festival stuck its toes in the chilly English waters last year and now returns for a second outing of watery flicks to enjoy while keeping nice and dry. Doors open for the bar at 6.30pm, with the two hour show kicking off at 7.30pm. Go here for the full film line-up. Advance tickets can be purchased here.
Bristol Surf Film Festival 2015
Saturday October 3, Paintworks Event Space
Relocated to the Paintworks Event Space, this year’s Bristol Surf Film Festival promises a selection of international feature films, award-winning shorts and a bunch of exhibiting brands. Among the confirmed films are Bjornora, in which three brothers set out on an Arctic adventure to the remote Bear Island; The Fjord, exploring the Faroe Islands’ untapped surfing potential; Nix Nic Nooley, the tale of a pair of surf dudes from the year 2879 who have to travel back in time for their surf fix after the oceans have dried up; and Alombre, which documents the waves and surfers of France’s Medoc region. You can find the full programme here. The event runs from 2pm-11pm. Advance tickets are available here.
Tuesday October 9, Cube
The Cube hosts something of a UK – nay, world – first: a film festival devoted entirely to women’s extreme sports. It is an opportunity to catch up with the best new films made by and featuring women from the extreme sports community, including the new one from pro-surfer Easkey Britton. You can find the programme at the festival’s official website as soon as it’s announced. There will also be panel discussions with the likes of filmmaker Jen Randall.
