Rave and recharge at daytime disco

By Ursula Billington  Monday Feb 10, 2025

A creative team intent on finding a new way of clubbing is bringing a unique event series to Bristol.

Disco Neurotico has been “reimagining raves for the nervous and neurospicy”, putting on sensory-friendly dances for anyone that finds traditional clubbing unappealing and unwelcoming, and designed with neurodivergent needs in mind.

Now they’re organising daytime dances in Bristol that will bring together live DJs and ‘great music’ with wholesome vibes and wellbeing.

Taking place at Pavey House in Clifton and St Werburgh’s Community Centre, the Rave and Recharge discos will be sober and inclusive, promising an alternative to the usual chaos and “overwhelming stimulation” of a typical clubnight.

They are intended as “a celebration of fun, connection, and movement, welcoming everyone to throw shapes and embrace joy in an environment free of alcohol and bad vibes.”

A guided meditation that, the Disco Neurotico team says, will be “low on woo, high on fun” will provide a low pressure start to proceedings, which will continue with a playful warmup movement session described as “part art, part fun and completely judgement free.”

The dance will follow, with DJs playing two 45-minute sets building from disco/piano house up to drum and bass.

“It’s perfect for anyone seeking a refreshing, sober alternative to traditional nightlife or simply wanting to recharge for the week ahead,” organiser and DJ Stefan Mohamed said, adding that, as the events start at 10am and finish at noon, they will be “legally the most fun you can have before midday.”

Next month Disco-Neurotico bring their innovative club experience to the Beacon’s Weston Stage, where they’re expanding their offering to include gaming, arts and crafts, a UV doodle wall, and trained wellbeing staff on hand.

They hope to provide “brief but profound respite from existential dread, entropy focused poly-crisis, global malaise, anthropocene anxiety and indefinable Post-Normal stress.”

The Clifton Rave and Recharge takes place on February 15, while the St Werburgh’s event is on February 16 and the Disco Neurotico inclusive clubnight at the Beacon comes up on March 29.
