Sheelanagig flautist resident at Buskers Bern

By Martin Booth  Friday Sep 12, 2014

After playing at Buskers Bern as the flautist in Sheelanagig, Bristol artist Adrian Sykes is returning to the annual Swiss street music festival this week as its first resident artist.

“I first worked with this amazing festival when we were invited to play a few years ago,” Adrian said.

“We returned to the city last year and I knew I had to finally give some proper time to painting the amazing city whilst it was full of the festival.

“I then spoke to the organisers about the gap in their offering, despite having over 300 incredible street performers, musicians etc they didn’t have a dedicated artist or painter capturing the festival.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“We quickly agreed to do something and they then created the role of resident artist especially for me.”

Adrian is driving to Bern today with four easels and hundreds of paint to keep him going for the duration of the three-day festival.

He has already created some paintings before the festival (including the two on this page) to hang in his outside atelier but will mostly be painting Buskers Bern as it happens.
